Here's my author journey, in a nutshell.
1) I started my first YA Fantasy book, Secrets of The Tally, at twelve years old. I spent FIVE years writing the first draft, then SEVEN more years editing it before publishing, and then another EIGHT years of publishing before the entire series of six was finished. It's my greatest accomplishent to date, and I could not be more proud of how the series turned out.
2) When Book 4 in the Tally series came out, it contained the cutest puppy ever on the cover, and he was so popular, he ended up getting his own series. Cue Macho and Friends, the illustrated books about the puppy who accidentally lets all the baby dragons escape and has to find them. And everything rhymes.
3) My author career was totally taking off by 2020 as I traveled all over the US to sell books, writing the next one as I traveled. It was awesome. When the pandemic hit and sent my whole business structure spiraling, I pivoted and spent the next year creating The 60 Day Novel Writing Challenge, which was something I'd kind of wanted to do forever anyway.
4) In 2023, after releasing the final installment in my beloved Tally Series, I had a sweet baby boy and realized I really needed my puppies and baby dragons to come in the form of board books, for babies. Angelique and I are currently creating them, and plan to see them out by 2026.
5) I did start a new fantasy series after finishing Tally, and I am super excited to release it one day. (It's about a magical, midnight circus, and you guys are going to LOVE it!) But after way too many sleepless nights with the newborn, I started writing romantic comedies to give myself a little pick-me-up, and keep myself sane. Writing fantasy takes so much effort and focus, that I decided to shelve the circus series for a while and just enjoy rom-coms. I'll continue writing fantasy as Halie Fewkes in the years to come, but in the meantime, my romantic comedies will be produced and published as "Halie Damewood."
